Local Business Spotlight: Little Beast DC

Little Beast restaurant on Connecticut Avenue NW in Chevy Chase Washington DC

There is a corner on Connecticut Avenue in Chevy Chase that does not need a sign to get your attention. The patio is usually full. The murals are visible through the window. And if you have been before, you already know what you are walking into. If you have not, this is the introduction.

The Slavis Group had our monthly team lunch at Little Beast recently. It was not a hard sell. Even with different tastes and appetites, we all walked out satisfied.

What is Little Beast in Chevy Chase DC?

Little Beast is a neighborhood bistro at 5600 Connecticut Ave NW in Chevy Chase DC. Owner Aaron Gordon named it after his daughters – playful, lively, with the spirit of a storybook brought into a dining room. Hand-painted murals cover the walls. The covered corner patio faces the quieter side of the street, away from the avenue traffic, and it fills up fast on a good afternoon. The whole place feels like it was built for the neighborhood rather than dropped into it.

What should I order at Little Beast?

Start with the Detroit-style deep dish pizza. It has earned recognition from the Washington Post and Washingtonian as among the best pizza in DC, and the in-person experience confirms it. Thick crust, serious cheese, the kind of pizza you are still thinking about on the drive home. It is the reason most people come in the first time and the reason they come back. With a lot of topping options, there is something for everyone.

Order the watermelon salad alongside it. It is the right counterweight – light enough to feel like summer, a refreshing counter dish to the pizza. The two together make a better lunch than either one alone.

Little Beast also serves regular wood-fired pizzas, plenty of starters, and desserts in partnership with their sister spot, Red Velvet Cupcakery. The menu is tight and well-curated. Everything on it belongs there.
